Erewash Junior Novice Aquathon - Saturday 15th August 2009West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
The Erewash Junior Novice Aquathon is aimed at the younger age groups that normally would not take part in this exciting multi sport event. With it being a novice event we would encourage young people aged 8 to 14 years old to try this exciting sport and take on this personal challenge. With the introduction of FREE swimming in Erewash for 16 years and below this is an ideal opportunity to prepare for your challenge.
The Aquathon is a multi-discipline event where participants compete against the clock and each other to complete the distance using swimming and running with a pit-stop between each sport called a transition to get ready for the next discipline. The athletes start at different times in a staggered start so no worries about a mad rush to keep up. This is purely a novice event so we would like to encourage people that have rarely done anything like this before so everyone will be at the same level – beginner! Parental consent is required to enter this event.
The Erewash Junior Aquathon is based at West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. It has an indoor six lane heated swimming pool and sports hall, changing rooms and showers as well as food and refreshments plus other facilities. The Leisure Centre is located on the edge of a 100 acre open park with tree line walks and cycle paths part of the National Sustrans Route.
This is the first year Erewash has held such an event and it is hoped that it grows each year and becomes a regular event in the sporting calendar attracting participants from Erewash and beyond.
The first competitors will start their swim at 1:00pm.
Entering the AquathonTo enter the Aquathon all you need to do is fill in an entry form and send this along with an appropriate cheque made payable to 'Erewash Borough Council' to the address on the form. Entry forms can be obtained by printing off the entry form below, picking one up from a council building or leisure facility or by calling us on 0845 9072244 Ext 4328, 4329 or 4314. The Erewash Junior Novice Aquathon is open to people whose ages will be between 8 to 14 years on the 31st December 2009 and will consist of the following disciplines: Tristart Start : (Aged 8 yrs old on the 31st Dec 09): 50m Swim and 600m Run
Tristart 1 : (Aged 9 or 10 yrs old on the 31st Dec 09): 50m Swim and 600m Run
Tristart 2 : (Aged 11 or 12 yrs old on the 31st Dec 09): 250m Swim and 2Km Run
Tristart 3: (Aged 13 or 14 yrs old on the 31st Dec 09): 250m Swim and 2Km Run
The Swim
The swim distance is determined by your age. To start the event you must swim the correct number of lengths of the 25m indoor heated swimming pool (any stroke is fine) and then you make your way to the transition area just outside the swimming pool and prepare for the next discipline the run. Please note that arm bands are not allowed in the swimming element as you must be competent and confident to swim the distance stated. The Run
Once the swim has been completed and you have gone through transition you can start the run. The route and distance you take will depend on which Tristart Category you have entered. It will be a flat course inside West Park with a finish area just outside the Leisure Centre.
